Maybe a flow chart helps? This is also dependent on the setting and the OS being on a compatible version. Also doesn't help with the lack of clear documentation by #microsoft.

Set it manually as a Proactive Remediation?
You then have to script it to remove the setting also.
No native way to set registry keys. Been in Group Policy for years.
