When dipshits on Twitter post stuff like this, I like to point out that the Soviet Union's economy was so backward that it could not provide women with disposable menstrual products.

UA hockey is ridiculous. 1) The league declared its season will start in 5 days (and they haven't released a schedule) 2) Bc one of the better clubs in the league (Kyiv Capitals) bolted for Latvia, they replaced it w club for Odesa region, even though Odesa has a team.

Otoh, nice threads.

On my way to the market today, I stumbled upon this assembly of mourners. Turns out that one year ago today was the bombing which destroyed an apartment building here, killing 7 people, including almost an entire family w their 3 little girls. They were gathering to commemorate the tragedy.

But when we arrived this time, the grass was freshly cut, a fresh stone path to the synagogue’s gates had been laid, all the brush had been cleared from the interior, and gravel had been laid down to keep it from quickly coming back.

The ruins of the house lie just around the corner from the remains of the old Stryi synagogue, where my great grandmother had her naming ceremony. The site is marked and protected from demolition, but each time we've been over the past 7 years, it has been completely overtaken by weeds & brush.

I had a truly remarkable experience a few days ago.

My mom in from the US for the week, & at my wife's insistence, we stopped by the house in the town of Stryi, Lviv Oblast, where my great grandmother Esther was born in 1896 and spent half her childhood before her family moved to settle in the US.

President Zelensky promised legislation to ensure the independence of anti-corruption organs today, but what that means remains to be seen.

The Lviv streets are not assuaged tonight.

Lviv tonight responding to today's passage of a law in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada consolidating presidential control over anti-corruption bodies.

Lots of young people w folks of all sorts cheering them on with their car horns, incl city busses and garbage trucks.

No police presence that I saw.

I fear for Ukraine when the British stag and hen parties really discover it, because you can get unlimited Aperol Spritz at this place in Kyiv for the price of a single one at a London Wetherspoons (about 10 quid)

LUHANSK TRAM TRACKS LIBERATED FROM GROUND, METAL NOW FREE TO PURSUE HIGHER PURPOSES

(The mafia warlords who took over Luhansk literally plundered the rails from its tram system to sell for scrap.)

I think that the city-run grocery stores are going to be a corruption-riddled boondoggle, but the issue with gov-run grocery stores in the USSR is that the country was too backward to produce enough food to meet demand, not that the stores were themselves mismanaged.

The supposed story that Sergio Gor, the head of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, is a Russian national is not accurate. The person behind the story has recognized the error they made. You should stop sharing it.
