It seems like a post-Trump left-wing US government, obsessed with pursuing revenge against Trump and Trumpists, would be an absolutely perfect weapon to destroy corruption in FIFA and thus gain the gratitude of the world's soccer fans.
FIFA, soccer’s international governing body, said it will begin bestowing an annual peace prize.

The inaugural award will be presented to an as-yet-unnamed honoree at the draw next month for the 2026 men’s World Cup.

Given that hunting down undocumented grannies is much higher federal law enforcement priority right now, "if" is very much the operative term here.
US sanctions on Russian oil could complement Ukraine’s damaging drone campaign against Russia’s energy industry.

IF the US follows through, with tight enforcement, over a sustained period of time.

And if the US sets the bar for Putin much higher than doing a meeting and posing for photos.

If.

Not to take away from the well-deserved criticism of the comedians who took Saudi money, but this piece makes a good point about understanding the domestic aims (rather than foreign PR) the Saudi regime is chasing.
"While part of this reflects an effort by Saudi authorities to shape what Saudi citizens should want—anything other than a political voice or political causes—it also reflects what many Saudi citizens already do want."

UA hockey is ridiculous. 1) The league declared its season will start in 5 days (and they haven't released a schedule) 2) Bc one of the better clubs in the league (Kyiv Capitals) bolted for Latvia, they replaced it w club for Odesa region, even though Odesa has a team.

Otoh, nice threads.

Yeah man they ain’t coming back. This is going to be one of the biggest foreign policy blunders of my lifetime, and it’s entirely possible that some guy at ICE ordered it not having any clue what he was doing. This is why we used to leave foreign affairs to sensitive nerds.
