"But it’s not just abortion, it is part of a larger anti-rights issue"

Reform has seen a few anti-abortion folks join them, but this broader anti-rights ideology includes racist, anti-immigration, anti-trans, anti-LGBTQI approaches and actions. 1/

On #InternationalSafeAbortionDay, and as attacks escalate and mis/dis-information spreads, a reminder: this starter pack can help get you started in finding some excellent Bluesky accounts sharing data & information on sexual and reproductive health.

My current work on the politics of data, invisibility, and gender in sexual and reproductive health is funded by the amazing @leverhulme.ac.uk 4/4
joestrong.bsky.social
For most people, reproduction is relational and involves other people (not to mention communities). We ignore the interpersonal, social, and sturctural obstacles to having children at our peril.

The lack of data is a huge contributor to that. Making a problem invisible doesn't make it go away! 3/3
joestrong.bsky.social
But we are falling short when we talk about barriers to people having the children they want and focusing on solely on women [and other ppl who can get pregnant].

Policies then burden women with 'solutions', and it all reeks of the misogyny of once again trying to control women's bodies 2/3

Had the BEST time presenting our work “Sex and the Survey” at @bspsuk.bsky.social, on behalf of fab co-authors @heinivaisanen.bsky.social & Linh Nguyen

We analyse surveys in France, Ghana, Senegal, and UK to answer the question ‘what if everything we knew about #SRHR was what we read in surveys?’
Slide saying “thank you” and contact details Joe.strong@qmul.ac.uk, with a meme of Samantha and Carrie in Sex and the City. Presenter at front thanking audience

Thank you @soc-misc.bsky.social for having me! It was a privilege to be in a space of incredible scholars to talk about #miscarriage measurement - an unbelievably untroubled space in our field given its importance for so many people!
soc-misc.bsky.social
The SOC-MISC project is hosting a workshop on miscarriage measurement in surveys and administrative data today. We are looking forward to discussing with our invited speakers Beth Sully, Joe Strong and Selin Köksal.
