I was going to add that Manhattan and/or remake need to be at the bottom, but clearly we differ there.

Oh, that’s a good list! I feel like everyone has their pet New Line to put in the top three. My editor was really pushing for Freddy v Jason at number three.

I did catch Part III in 3D this past weekend, which is a much better experience, but it wasn't enough for me to bump it up to the second half of the list.

It's true! I got to tag along with Sarah to talk about log jams, spaghetti slips, and spiritual existentialism with the Fear of God fellas. Check it out!

Coming home from One Battle After Another to watch the latest Peacemaker really underscored that pop culture is recognizing that White Supremacy is inextricable from American power and is enforced by the police (or police stand-ins in Peacemaker).

Wolf Man remains one of my favorite movies of the year, so I was glad to get the chance to talk about it on the show.

Christopher Abbott gnawing on his arm in the movie Wolf Man (2025)

Look, I'm loving the nastiness of Absolute Batman and I enjoy The Dark Knight and The Batman. But these things work because they build off the inherent silliness of the character, and we need more stories that just a silly, simple character be silly and simple.

We shouldn't be surprised that kids are less interested in Batman because very few good Batman stories have been made for kids in the past decade. Which is a problem, because Batman (like all superheroes) is fundamentally for kids (for @denofgeek.bsky.social): www.denofgeek.com/movies/forgo...
Have We Forgotten Batman Is for Kids?
New research data on Gen Alpha shows Batman barely registers with young audiences when compared to Spider-Man, Avengers, Minecraft, or Wednesday Addams. Is that a long-term problem for the Dark Knight...

For @denofgeek.bsky.social, I ranked the #startrek crews from worst to best which, like most franchise-wide articles I write, is kind of a rough draft for an article I'm going to eventually write about how Carol Freeman is the best Starfleet captain: www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-trek...
Star Trek Crews Ranked from Worst to the Real Number Ones
The voyages of the starship Enterprise and its sisters have involved some fantastic crews.

Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey get all the attention in that last scene of #seven, but Morgan Freeman is doing incredible acting there, and throughout the movie. I wrote about it for @denofgeek.bsky.social: www.denofgeek.com/movies/seven...
Seven Remains Morgan Freeman’s Best Performance
Morgan Freeman's stunning, subtle acting makes Seven an even more upsetting movie than we thought.

Nothing makes Google's AI look dumber than searching up random deep-cut alien races from DC Comics.

Yep, same. I enjoy the eps, but Whedon just saying he’s divorcing the symbol from nasty Western tropes doesn’t make it so. Especially when butted against the Federation (which obviously has its problems, but not the same ones).
joewriteswords.bsky.social
He’s trying to do that, but he’s still invoking Lost Cause narratives because he’s working in Western tropes that communicated that narrative. Same with the Reavers. You can say that they aren’t Indigenous peoples, but the signifier of Indigenous is bigger than your story’s lore.

oooh. you may not like the (fair, i think) real-world comparison to the browncoats i make in this article.

Why follow one unpleasant experience with another?
joewriteswords.bsky.social
I feel like I understand less about this movie the more Kirstie and I talked about it. So listen to me get even more confused!
