and what happens when, even if by some miracle every queer audience turns to these scenes, straight and cis audiences get funneled away from them because they don't bother to think about how media companies actively keep them sequestered from us unless they already KNOW us enough to watch for it.

while I'm coping with the idea of queer audiences possibly going "fuck this, time to buy independent comics or games or writing by queer people" I'm also worried about how many cishet people will be content enough with scraps and occasional thrown bones and ignore growing queer indie creative scenes

its harder to get people to be bigoted against people in their daily lives and communities. not impossible by any means, but harder. and with corporate media being too many peoples' community-substitute... even with how rancidly bigoted fandoms are whats depressing is how that is still a step up.

like, I hope its "get angry and cultivate a healthy if long-overdue distrust of corporations" but also "give money directly to queer creators doing independent work." but still the main benefit of mainstream corporate IP queer content was that it made cishet audiences less likely to want us dead.

as more media companies use the current political situation as an excuse to ditch queer content and creators asap, I wonder what audiences who grew up or came out in a "post-subtext" world are gonna do once they realize subtext scraps are once more going to be the best they get on a corporate level.

Argath: Yes Ramza, I called her "this person." Have you not yet learned that gender is but a performance? Is it not our right as cis to judge that performance? To let them know when they have made themselves useful enough to us that they we may deign to grant them the title of "woman" they seek?

even when it is well meaning, I do not think it should count as trans rep at all because it only gets used to artificially inflate the numbers so people go "see? we don't need more trans women characters, look at all the hulking fist-of-the-north-star-ass monster men they already get!"

in terms of the unexplored meta-narrative of Final Fantasy Tactics, the six generic units Ramza starts with are all also the children of nobility who give up their lives of privilege at the exact same time for the exact same reasons, and they didn't even know Tietra! and yet they get no credit.
