I like how in the great new movie THE SECRET AGENT, Udo Kier’s name shows up in an ad for ‘Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein’ - and then about a half hour later, up pops Udo.

New movies in Memphis, 12/5: HAMNET (Ridgeway only); FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S 2 (the first one was truly awful, but Universal was smart enough to secure it a PG-13 - kids love it, the way they eventually glommed onto Chucky); the 255-minute KILL BILL: THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR...1/3

One of my favorite musicians, Todd Snider, died this week. He launched a career in Memphis on his way to becoming a songwriter not quite like any other, wading around in his own sorrow, with both moral clarity and unrivaled jokes, all the way to a too-soon end.

Todd Snider was a singular songwriter and a voice for outcasts and underdogs
Chris Herrington: "Todd Snider launched his career in Memphis, and then reinvented himself a decade later. For his last 20 years, there was no songwriter quite like him. "

"Good things happen to bad people." Which means the reverse also is true. Same as it ever was. Brilliant, righteous songwriting. RIP Todd Snider.
