Politically it will be bad for them, but the human cost and strain on our social fabric will scar us for a generation

I really think this Admin badly wants a “2020 rematch” and I’d be surprised if this summer wasn’t long, hot, and bloody. Only a matter of time before they kill someone else or even more people.

Basically, if I was writing an althistory.com accounting of an Amermaidan I don’t know what’d I’d do differently besides maybe include a more aggressive opposition
January 8, 2026 at 3:33 AM
I think it’s definitely quite likely we get trapped in some kind of escalation spiral as the Admin beefs up its violent repression.

Doesn’t help that I really do think this Admin wants a 2020 rematch so they can vindicate themselves or whatever by literally gunning down the LeftTM

Surprised we haven’t had a repeat of the Boston Massacre with the way our home grown Stasi has been acting. DHS is fundamentally against our democratic traditions

2070 you have a United States that is a lot more regionally frayed and with divergent outcomes between Blue/Red areas with even larger disparities between rural/urban states
January 6, 2026 at 4:17 PM
So you get some states that basically finance their own internal welfare/university systems while other states fall way behind. Obviously, rich coastal states benefit the most and rural Southern/Western states lose out due to less regional transfers of wealth

Kinda wonder if one (really bad) outcome of this might end up being a weaker/poorer Federal government due to state’s being more inclined to protect revenue in their borders. Lower Federal taxes allows states like NY and CA to pick up the slack.

They would definitely embrace a “Budapest Understanding” with Russia and a “Honolulu Understanding” with the PRC if they could.

Funny how the only reason why the “non-interventionist” right seems to be anti-interventionist is that they hate seeing the US have a hard/un-winable
January 5, 2026 at 9:35 PM
In what world do you have to live in to think the GOP was normal about Obama. Rush Limbaugh called it the “regime” all the time

Average Clone Wars Separatist villain orders the massacre of civilians before the heroic Republic saves them. There is an entire (great) arc showing the Separatists backing literal slavery
December 30, 2025 at 11:24 PM
Kinda do think narratively the Clone Wars being a bit more morally gray would work better. The Republic is unquestionably the narrative good guys, outside of occasional negligence, until Papa Palpatine orders the clones to murder everyone

These guys take Scrooge’s “decrease the surface population” comment as a goal to aim for

I’m sure there have been plenty of articles focused on the 50.2% of people who did not vote for Donald Trump
December 29, 2025 at 5:54 AM
Kinda think if the bottom falls out hard enough between now and the '28 primaries Vance might actually lose the nomination.

One of the most cathartic ways for this all to end would be to see Vance get crushed on Super Tuesday as the GOP implodes into a civil war

4 years out of college and making 90k. He’s probably about a decade or so away from his peak earning years. Maybe the problem is unrealistic expectations! You are not going to be super rich in your 20s unless you are exceptionally lucky or have rich parents
December 26, 2025 at 6:07 PM
GOP approval is at 89% and in the low 80s for economic approval. If we actually start getting mass layoffs and a recession his approval is gonna be in the mid to upper 20s. Total collapse of a midterm
December 23, 2025 at 3:50 PM
Lowkey I kinda thought going into this year that Trump being absolutely unhinged alone would be enough to destroy his popularity even without a major crisis
