Yeah this is why I think the risk of a cool zone moment post-election are increasingly. They’re in a deeply radicalized ideological bubble that does not believe legitimate liberals/leftists exist. Some of these guys seem eager for an American Tlatelolco to occur.
repression -> more unpopular imagery -> more people on the streets -> more repression + internal regime radicalization

I enjoy living in one of the only places in Kansas with large hills which makes driving in my sedan during snowy conditions very fun (lol lmao lol).

I do think one possible, but also very bad, outcome of this is a legitimate quasi-breakdown of the Union over the course of 25-50 years or so that sees state’s exert greater levels of authority as the Federal government becomes increasingly unstable
Yeah even if we get out if it this time I’m not quite sure how we deal with the fact that 30% of the population and 23 states seem hell-bent on dragging the whole Union down a reactionary path.

They simply will not leave California, Minnesota, and New York alone as they desire to extend control

Trump has the unique ability to engineer incredible backlash by the sheer force of just asshole governance

And this time around it’s 100% more intense, cruel, and unhinged
i feel like people have memoryholed the 2018 midterms entirely
"the only time his poll numbers fall is when his voters experience economic pain"

this is just flatly untrue, you are wrong.

Really do wish we had some mechanism for a Special Presidential Election rip
January 12, 2026 at 1:05 AM
We’re like 2-4 bad decisions away from discovering if “Presidential Breakdown” in the US is possible and I’m not looking forward to that.

I think one of my greatest moments in undergrad was when I emailed Eric Foner about how much I loved Reconstruction and he replied 5 minutes later. It was awesome

Building off of this, I kinda think Obama might be remembered in a mythical Kennedyish way among our generation.

The last "Great President" before this country went off the deep end of right-wing authoritarianism. His flaws paved over as, compared to what came after, he was a saint
I think two big things shaping my political orientation as someone whose life experience with politics has been dominated by Donald Trump.

1. An intense disgust towards populism/anti-expert sentiment of any kind.
2. General intense partisanship due to the GOP's descent into authoritarianism

I beat this dead horse a lot, but I am quite worried about what public education is going to look like in Red States in 20 years plus the knock on effects of their systems decaying.

Will there be quite meaningful quality of life differences between Blue and Red states in the coming decades?
I don’t really have a lot to say about the OU thing except 1) it’s obviously about the trans instructor and 2) red state publics are all so, so vulnerable to this

I do not think there is an Administration in modern history that misunderstood why they were elected or their own coalition more than this one. We're at Bush '07 numbers and the bottom hasn't even fallen out yet!
November 30, 2025 at 7:20 AM
Gotta say they honestly deserve an award to get down to Bush ‘07 approvals before things have really blown up economically

Thermostatic backlash going to hit this admin like a hydrogen bomb
👀 those Republican approvals

This becoming a stupid version of FDR's Court Packing fight would be an enormously funny outcome
Idk the mechanism required but like how many GOP Senators would he have to strong arm

Manchin and Sinema blocking the John Lewis VRA seems like it could become the greatest political disaster of the century if Section 2 is wiped out.

My God the Children are reading Robert Dahl what are we ever to do??????
the free press trying to make a scandal out of reading robert dahl is very funny (shoutout to dahl, one of the best to ever do it)
One of Bari Weiss’s reporters over at the Free Press was shocked to discover what Columbia students are reading in class:

Wichita is weird because politically it’s very conservative for a city of its size. Very much like a high-plains city. Also its suburbs are VERY red. Underrated center of the GOP dominance of the state (besides them consistently getting Assad margins in rural areas with few major cities to counter)
Wichita area suburbs becoming like Johnson County while JC votes like Washington would transform Kansas politics. Probably is the Wichita suburbs are all less college educated than JC suburbs, but if just Wichita city rockets left………

Combine that with rural losses and KS becomes a swing state

>1,000 years of no unified Galactic Republic Military
>Creates unified military to defeat rebel government
>Military immediately becomes a tyrannical jackboot oppressing the entire Galaxy

100% get why the New Republic was hesitant to keep a standing army.

Woke: Who was President in 2431?
I've seen this on Bluesky and had to try it myself. The image below was the response to the prompt: "Show me a diagram of the US presidents since Herbert Hoover, with their names and years in office under their photos" Bravo, OpenAI, bravo.

Pro-Imperial conspiracy theorists in 29 ABY arguing the "Death Star" wasn't real and also the Emperor was trying to prevent the Rogue ISB from making one. Alderaan just did that.

Yeah think the reason why “Trumpism without Trump” candidates fall flat so often is that they are unable to effectively mask whatever cruelty they espouse. Unlike Trump who’s celebrity status seems to shield him a bit and as a consequence people take him less seriously
Stealing this, but he’s Obama for stupid people. That’s literally what it is
At the very least, the idea that Trump should be easy to beat and could only defeat a terrible candidate is obviously wrong. His unique ability to mobilize first time and sporadic voters alone makes up for a lot of his very real liabilities and then some
