it's just about that time of year for me to figure out what horror projects I want to take on this spooky season 🎃

This was *fantastic* to look at.

It turns out I remember way more of the dialogue from reading this in high school than I thought, so much of it flew back into my mind.

Eira A. Ekre's Mimeograph is a fantastic piece of speculative fiction, where the future of predictive analytics is explored to fantastic final stages.

Many thanks to @literallypr.bsky.social for the review copy of this one!

I love that stop motion has always done this. Takahide Hori’s Junk Head (I’m excited to see Junk World!) and Phil Tippett’s Mad God are just the latest in a legacy of stop motion animators creating post-apocalyptic worlds teeming with little guys.
Jiří Trnka’s The Cybernetic Grandma (1962), even long before the titular robot wheels onscreen, is a WONDER. Timeless craft, the fluid stop motion filmed and paced with such a careful air, while being such a timely taste of Cold War science fiction from the Central Europe lens.

I'm jumping on the pod again to talk Tony Scott!

Hit us up with your thoughts on the film, or T Scott in general 🙏
LISTENER FEEDBACK TIME!!! This Sunday night we are recording one of our Scott Brothers episodes early, to be released in January.
We have @johngudmann.bsky.social joining us to talk submarine warfare with Tony Scott's Crimson Tide. Give us all your thoughts about this 1995 flick.

I'm all caught up on The Chair Company, I think it's the best thing Tim Robinson has done.

The paranoid thriller narrative works perfectly with his style, the story setup lets him add in all the usual kind of characters we've seen in ITYSL

Tombstone rocks! George P. Cosmatos directs it with such a scorching fury, and there's so many unreal performers around every corner.

Probably my favourite Russell *and* my favourite Kilmer, they are next level fantastic here.

Kevin Jarre's screenplay is packed with heat.
