It's important to remember that fascists will pretend to support popular policies to get power. I'm not saying that this is what he's doing, but after Fetterman, stated policy positions mean less to me when there are red flags (like, uh, Nazi tattoos).

Your professor starts giving a lecture that applies perfectly to the situation, but you're not listening because you're looking at something strange out the window

This is what I was trying to say the other day.

It's difficult to get across the nuance of, "this guy probably shot regularly" and "most people could make this shot if they grew up around guns."

For non-gun folk, it's much more exciting to think "sniper." That's gonna fuel some conspiracity.

this post made me realize that "well, tbf, every day has an event that could fuel an assassination attempt" may not be the healthiest status quo for a society

My concern is that describing the shooter as having a great deal of acumen might fuel conspiracy theories at this stage.

I'm just saying it's not "had to be an ex-sniper!" level. More like "darn good shootin'" level. (mentally substitute a neutral phrase for "darn good," I can't think of one)

I think I could have written my post more clearly; blind luck is very unlikely. I was expressing that it's a possibility.

This is almost certainly someone with a decent amount of experience. It's just not "had to be an ex-sniper" level, which may be important when the conspiracy theories start.

I think your point was clear. The shot's at about a 4 MOA standard, it's impressive under stress but not absolutely insane like some are speculating.

Certainly an experienced shooter or someone with insane luck, but that's about all we can know from just the distance and the result.

It should also be stressed that making "compromises" regarding the rights of trans folk weakens the rights of cis folks, too.

If trans people are forced into hiding, the fascists will just look for another target. They will never, ever stop pressing.

As an Illinoisan, I held my nose while voting for Pritzker the first time, and then he won me over by being an earnest, action-driven governor.

It's odd that there's even an argument here; judging someone based on their actual record should be the standard. Their messaging should never come first.

during the Star Trek disc. in that stream I wanted to mention that I made a cut of Avery Brooks on the Captains in which everything's the same but he sucks at piano

At least here in St. Louis, every storebought melon I've had has been complete trash this year.

I'd like to also throw in "intelligent South Asian woman is the second in command who knows how to pull the strings"

I think both come from a combination of 1) casting directors trying to be diverse without giving actual lead roles to POC and 2) the actors involved knocking it out of the park
