I'm...pretty sure that's not true? It's the only *novel* to survive in its entirety, but we definitely have entire plays, poems, works of history, letters, orations, etc.

I *think* so, because anyone with a certain amount of property was able to vote and some black men were able to vote. My understanding is that in general only widows would have qualified?

There's a cop brasserie they hang out at on the off hours where the bartender is a muppet who only speaks French.

Women property-holders could vote in New Jersey until 1807.

Why is he even on Judiciary if he's not a lawyer? Were there not enough lawyers in the 80s to fill the committee or something?

The bane of all shows like this: too many flashbacks.

It's crazy that Marvel had three completely distinct Yellow Peril villains (Yellow Claw, Fu Manchu, the Mandarin). I think Yellow Claw maybe the most blatantly racist?

Like, very small-c conservative but also extremely slight.

I do think that SPEW is kind of unwitting in its satire -- it's not really about well intentioned people going too far, it's more "we must understand that each individual has their own sphere, and that is where they are happiest and there's no point trying to disturb that with your liberal ideas."
January 28, 2026 at 1:25 AM
Even there, SPEW is if anything a sort of conservative satire, not idealistic West Wingian liberalism!

Nice skyline shot, and also "A Plague of Frogs" is a great title.

She's going to be ditched well before it gets to an impeachment vote.

Oh for sure, I just respect straight up honest doomerism over the idea that there's some sort of magic solution Democrats simply refuse to use.
