4/4 Even if gangster horror musicals like #Sinners are not to your personal taste, you have to admit it’s an interesting time to live in where #film is seriously addressing the issue of race on this level — and audiences are buying it!

3/4 this #film is about the “sinners” who reject both forms of Christianity in favor of true Black liberation which #RyanCoogler suggests can only be achieved by financial independence from White cultural power structures.

2/4 a Christianity that either teaches Black people to silently endure the KKK while singing songs about going to Heaven someday — or else calls Black people to assimilate to liberal monoculture and lose their unique racial identity.
