Tropical Storm #Jerry poses a marginal threat to the northeastern Caribbean. The storm has turned west-northwest already and is expected to turn further northbound between Thursday and Friday. A Tropical Storm Watch is in place for some of the Leeward Islands. It looks to miss PR by a safe distance.

Tonight's full moon is the first supermoon this year, when the moon is at the point in its orbit that is closest to Earth, known as perigee. It will look a little bigger and 16% brighter, especially near moonrise around sunset. (via @rtphokie.bsky.social)

Bandaid 🩹 adaptation seen this morning to keep this Coconut Grove (Miami) street free of sunny day saltwater #flooding.

#KingTides are inundating more of South Florida due to sea level rise. How do we transition from bandaids to stitches? It’ll take lots of 💸. Or moving 🚛 .

It can be very difficult for an African easterly wave to cross the Atlantic without turning before the Caribbean. The model consensus for new Invest 95L is for that to happen. Still worth monitoring for any changes. But it shouldn't raise too much concern at this time. (models ➡️ @burgwx.bsky.social)

The deepest tide in years (maybe on record) is in the works for South Florida in the next 3-4 days. Likely to reach 16 inches above NOAA predictions due to sea level rise and strong onshore winds, it will likely create more widespread & deeper sunny day saltwater flooding (via @bmcnoldy.bsky.social)

"Why doesn’t #Florida [...] build better like #Bermuda? You can ask developers and their building lobby. Or you can ask the city, county, and state leaders that are charged with regulating them in the interest of our safety." My view of #Imelda for @nbcmiami.com www.nbcmiami.com/weather/hurr...
Morales: 2 new areas of interest in the tropics after Bermuda withstands Imelda
NBC6 hurricane specialist John Morales looks at how Bermuda was able to withstand Hurricane Imedla and what’s next for hurricane season.

Three weeks in and trends towards a back-loaded hurricane season are materializing. Since September 10:

Named storms = 3 (normal 2)
Hurricanes = 3 (normal 2)
Major hurricanes = 2 (normal 1)

October is busiest for the western Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Stay aware.

King Tides are the year’s highest tides. With rising seas, they’re becoming a real-world preview of future coastal flooding.

What are king tides, how have they changed over time, and what do they reveal about our climate future?

A Hurricane Warning has been hoisted for #Bermuda. #Imelda, north of the #Bahamas & east of #Florida, is the 4th hurricane of the 2025 season. The seasonal norm up to this date is 5 hurricanes. But the first 3 to form reached Category 4 & 5 status—a record in the satellite era.

Waving at #Imelda from a distance as it passes 200 miles from #Miami. Max winds up to 50 mph, moving north. Last night Nassau gusted to 48 mph when the storm crossed near the eastern tip of New Providence Island #Bahamas. (image courtesy @tropicaltidbits.bsky.social)

Evidence that antipathy for higher education is very much performative. Especially by those swayed heavily by tribalism.

"almost two-thirds of MAGA Republicans expressed the exact opposite, saying that colleges & universities are having a negative impact"

Colleges have had a tough year. Confidence in them is rising.
Low opinions of college are reversing, with 87 percent of Democrats and 68 percent of Republicans saying it has some importance for success, new poll shows.

1️⃣2️⃣ = number of Atlantic Category 5 hurricanes in 10 years ending 2025 (a record)

9️⃣ = previous record number of Atlantic Category 5 hurricanes in 10 years (ending 2007)

Newly formed Tropical Depression 9 is forecast to become Hurricane Imelda. A Tropical Storm Warning is in place for the #Bahamas. Parts of the east coast of #Florida are in a Tropical Storm Watch for possible indirect effects. Chance of storm force winds (%): Cocoa Beach 37, WPB 26, FLL 19, Miami 3.
johnmoralestv.bsky.social
80 mph increase in winds between 11 pm ET Thursday and 11 pm ET Friday means that #Humberto too has exceeded the threshold of Extreme Rapid Intensification. Again.
johnmoralestv.bsky.social
Tropical Storm Watch (yellow) & Warning (blue) posted for the #Bahamas as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine heads your way. Expect a stormy weekend. #Florida looks to see only indirect impacts. But from Georgia to the Carolinas the risk of a stalling Hurricane Imelda spells trouble mainly from floods.
johnmoralestv.bsky.social
Now Major Hurricane Humberto's rate of intensification of 55 mph in 24 hours is just short of the Extreme Rapid Intensification threshold. It follows major hurricanes Erin and Gabrielle. It's the first time since 1935 that the first three hurricanes of the year all reach major status.

While Invest 94L consolidates (it is well on its way), perhaps the most important trend today was the consensus suddenly seen among both the physical & AI models that what is likely future Imelda will turn north after impacting the #Bahamas. #Florida could be safe. But not the rest of the Southeast.
johnmoralestv.bsky.social
"It is more likely than not that the nucleus of whatever develops out of the easterly wave near PR on Wednesday will turn north before reaching the Sunshine State. But there is a greater level of uncertainty than normal. And therefore, Invest 94L should be monitored" www.nbcmiami.com/weather/hurr...
