I'm excited to share a new preprint: In a novel experimental paradigm, we found evidence that stress induces a computational bias during alcohol-related decision-making in favor of alcohol, but this bias was only sometimes strong enough to overcome competing considerations (e.g., taste preferences).

CHATGPT: I understand where you're coming from. You worked really hard to get here, and now it's time to enjoy the fruit of your labors.

ISILDUR: So I should keep it? Elrond says I shouldn't

CHATGPT: The ring is precious. Sometimes friends don't have your best interests at heart.

ISILDUR: true

(I’m also not advocating for anything to be a default across an entire field, I have talked about what I see sensible for my work and that of people who are in a similar position to me)
jonasdora.bsky.social
So you’re saying you don’t know clinical psych well but know better than us who have worked in and reviewed in this field for years? I’m not assuming that it’s a sensible default for marine biology because I know exactly nothing about marine biology
jonasdora.bsky.social
Then anyone with a brain will agree it’s ok to hold off on sharing the data until they are done :) this does not apply to 99% of clinical psych but plenty of people will use this as justification to hold onto their mturk data

I, as many other people, get paid a salary (funded by taxpayer money) to collect data and write code. Why should they be my property “until the effort put in is paid off”? I alrdy got paid to do this work! Now they belong to those who paid for them, which is everyone
jonasdora.bsky.social
I agree mostly and I think there are many ways to go about this but I also think the point of the OP applies to this as well, most people don’t appear to try to do that either ;)

Saw Eiko’s post, haven’t read the paper - I’m not surprised, this is the exact criticism addiction researchers have voiced for long time re social media “addiction” - we’d be “addicted” to lots of things following the rationale, such as being social, breathing, sleeping, drinking water, …

This H1B thing is a DISASTER for the USA. Phone your representative and senator NOW and demand action to protect America.

This is an attack on the American economy and American technological and scientific advancement. Not to mention a truly awful thing to do to half a million people.

AOC: We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was. A man who believed that the civil rights act that granted black Americans the right to vote was a mistake… His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans.

What kind of thought process is this, “people can work here and pay taxes like everyone else but they also need to pay the government $100,000” 🤣

So this means I can never leave the country again? (I don’t own $100k)

A friend of mine was on Charlie Kirk's "watch list" of Black professors. She received so many death and rape threats that her university offered her a security detail for the walk to class.

This is Kirk's legacy.

You would never know it from reading all of these legacy newspaper op-eds about him.

Deskilling is a huge concern.

It's terrifying that students and academics convince themselves that AI can substitute for their own critical faculties or skill development.
