CAIL = prerequisite knowledge for a critical perspective, such as to tell apart nonsense hype from true theoretical computer scientific claims. For example, the idea that human-like systems are a sensible or possible goal is the result of circular reasoning and anthropomorphism. olivia.science/ai

The story told here--one where anecdata suggests agency and autonomy have run amok and nameless activists are to blame--certainly rhymes with the NYT's disastrous panic about trans kids. Then you realize it's literally being written by the same author.

Together with Cybertruck and Florida's coastal mansions, AI has now joined the elite ranks of the uninsurable.

In the big debate over who is liable when the AI fucks up, the insurance companies boldly take the lead by shouting NOT US, and slamming the door.

An ICE agent was caught removing a sign marking an ICE kidnapping in DC last week! Do we think he did it out of anger, embarrassment, or most appropriately shame? If you think what you’re doing is right, why are you trying to hide the evidence? 👀

If 2023 was the year AI slop was embraced by spammers and social media influencers, and 2024 was the year the slop era began in earnest, 2025 was when slop became embedded in our cultural institutions and social spheres.

On the slop layer that we all must navigate now:
Lost in the slop layer
How AI has encrusted our culture and social sphere in a sedimentary layer of slop.

The group doesn't claim to offer therapy. But it has, in some cases, been able to help break AI users out of their spirals.

This has mainly occurred in situations in which a user was starting to doubt the chatbot, and was ready (or readier) to hear that their AI-generated reality might not be real.

It’s a real shame that journalists are the most credulous bozos on earth, willing to print half-baked nonsense so that Silicon Valley grifters can slap “as seen in Politico” on their website when they go begging for venture capital money.
