Dave watched this government Education Committee meeting so you didn’t have to. But you do have to read his summary (if you have any interest in the future of HE)
"A system built on specialisation, efficiency", that right there is the death knell for the current university system in the UK, if (big if) government pushes it through. They actively don't want HE to grow, they will intervene, apparently, to help it shrink.

per this morning's education committee.

Guys I have terrible news - this post has gone viral on Facebook, promoting hundreds of rage-filled comments from people who have taken it very seriously indeed. And, most annoyingly, the Autism Parents have found it!!
Mary Walker, 9, who has always displayed autistic traits, was miraculously fixed by her parents insisting that she stop it at once.

Community engagement that you subsequently ignore is worse than no community engagement at all
When Streeting dismisses parents who support their trans kids whilst positively engaging with those who recommend and use conversion practices on their kids and who are oftentimes estranged from their kids; or the kids say their parent’s behaviour left them suicidal, you have to ask,why is he such a
1 - My son and I met with Wes Streeting last year with other families. He heard the most horrific stories of children refused blockers and how it impacts them. We begged him not to ban blockers, and he promised to work with us, to have further meetings.

Not for any with universities in their constituencies…
Speaking at PLP tonight, Rachel Reeves urged Labour MPs to get behind her Budget saying “politics is a team sport” and promising them there would be a package of appealing measures in the Budget that they could promise their constituents.

Labour's anti-asylum policies are already fundamentally inhumane and discriminatory. Applying them retrospectively is pure cruelty though. It serves absolutely no purpose. Meanwhile it will increase the costs and bureaucracy of an already dysfunctional Home Office.

I always get excited around the budget and I'm not sure whether that's because I'm an unrepentant nerd or whether it's because when I worked for an accountant's we had to work Saturdays at budget time and we always got given free pizza

I'm going insane because people constantly recommend using AI for things and it is always, ALWAYS worse than repeatedly bashing my head on a brick.

It's like you have an actual problem & all anyone recommends is "have you tried talking to my cousin? He drinks bleach & doesn't wash his pants"

I mean me and my friends don't actually want to keep our hugely pay-eroded jobs anyway. We'll be fine.
My modest proposal: every year the government should auction 10,000 special visas that are identical to student visas but without the requirement to attend classes. The price that auction settles at is the amount every university has to pay the state per foreign student admitted.

I'm reading the protocol for the PATHWAYS puberty blockers trial (fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR16...) and it is utterly brutal. Excessive amounts of testing. I can't understand how this got through ethics. The poor children who take part in it.

Accepting that you are Autistic (as a newly identified adult) often includes reflecting on how our favorite characters throughout our lives have played a part in how we see the world.

We often exhibit the behaviors we see in the role model characters that we admire and relate with the most.
