It’s nice that a number of Republican electeds are standing up for America’s long-term alliances. But there’s only one way they can possibly save U.S. power and security: impeach and convict Trump, Vance, and the entire cabinet. If they do it soon they’ll even still hold the presidency.

Nadim Zahawi has said that one of the things that attracted him to Reform UK was a belief in freedom of speech… but he has shown very little enthusiasm for free expression when journalists scrutinised his own conduct.

I left university in 2019 with £49,600 of debt. A few months later, I became an MP and have since received a salary that puts me in the top 5% in the country. 6 years on, the repayments from my salary have brought this total to down to £48,600 - just £1,000 less.

Toby Young’s outfit went to court to hide its donors. Today we reveal that funders include US anti-abortion groups, Brexit politicians and Tufton Street insiders.

We are delighted to report that this motion passed unanimously at both the Women Members' Standing Committee and LGBTQ+ Standing Committee meetings this morning. Three more standing committee meetings take place next week where the motion has been tabled. So pleased to have such wide support #UCU
We've written a motion to open up the nomination process to UCU's advisory equality standing committees, which is long overdue. This would bring it in line with that for our decision-making NEC. More details of the process and our reasons at the link. #UCU #UKHE

A briefing that starts "higher education is facing an existential crisis". All too true!

Slightly misleading assumption in the article is that it’s all academics that have chosen to leave. At Exeter, over half of those who accepted TERS were in profesional services. Suspect the same sector-wide. Administrative capacity in the sector is being decimated.
Ninety UK universities to have posted accounts so far cut 13,300 jobs last year, spending £303 million on severance pay - sector-wide total clearly going to be well in excess of predicted 10,000. Great reporting by @patrickjack.bsky.social www.timeshighereducation.com/news/pay-spe...
