EU membership was no barrier to exporting waste to the developing world and Brexit doesn’t specifically promote this practice.

*I would add that the destabilising nature of recent immigration has not merely been felt in the U.K, but in - for example - the health outcomes of every country from whom the NHS has persistently poached clinicians.

It is in no way contradictory to hold the view that immigration - from the Romans to the Huguenots to the Irish and the Green Lanes Kurds - has brought many benefits, but that recent immigration has been too high and socially destabilising*, and that U.K citizens should decide who can settle here.

As Chair of the North London Waste Authority’s Member Recycling Board I prohibited export of recyclates beyond the U.K, except for glass and card, which I prohibited from being exported beyond Europe.

Brexit - which has been a disaster - isn’t the main or even partial issue in this instance.

This week, a family member going through chemo had to have all her hair cut off because she was self-conscious about it falling out.

The hairdresser shut the shop, cut my relative’s hair, then refused to take payment for it.

What “rant”? Strikes me as very level headed, moderate - one might even say quintessentially British - reflection on people trying to divide the nation, intimidate people, and force their performative, empty gesture ‘patriotism’ on others.

To be honest, I think he nailed it.
