Yes, but the big difference is that countries volunteer to join the EU. Unlike the Roman Empire, the Nazi Empire or the Soviet Empire, they are not bludgeoned or forced to join. Today most of Europe is in the EU or wants to be.

👉 BBC Newsnight misled viewers by suggesting 𝗮𝘀𝘆𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 are part of the UK’s “𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀.” They are not. I’ve complained to the BBC - 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Trade, investment, growth, stability — that was the real return.
