I remember him at the Marquee in Wardour Street in the early 80s. He did the full strong man act - tearing up phone books and so on - and some fairly shit heavy metal. Good night out as I recall!

Thanks for sharing. Interesting post. I still find it weird that the EU goes to the trouble of having a directly elected Parliament and gives it so little influence.

When the purpose is 'informal rationing' and not triage, the form is functioning. Extremely annoying!

For ;-) Also worth mentioning marking criteria, team approaches to marking (agreed transparently), second marking and moderation processes. All of which need resourcing properly to work.

A clear but simple cost/benefit analysis would also help debunk a lot of the myths perpetuated by the far right.

I'm sorry you're going through this. On an intellectual level, you may find this paper interesting Stroebe, M. and Schut, H. (2010) ‘The Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement: A Decade on’, OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying, 61(4), pp. 273–289. Available at: doi.org/10.2190/OM.6....

New Labour did enact the Child Poverty Act 2010, before the Tories Swiss-cheesed it. And Stamp Duty was introduced by New Labour through the Finance Act 2003. Probably such a long time since we've had a Labour Govt., people have forgotten what their budgets looked like.

Yeah, fundamentally I agree. However, the widespread assumption that you can increase efficiency by imposing cost restrictions is also not well founded. It produces unintended impacts that take years (decades) to work through the system. HO/MOJ are looking for 'quick wins' that prob. won't work, IMO

Reform is a party that says things that appeal to racists, fields racist candidates, fawns over racist world leaders, made a convicted racist guest of honour at their conference, and whose leader refuses to outright deny having racially abused people.

If only there were a word for such a party.

The problem, as I'm sure you're aware, is cost. And more specifically, the voting public's unwillingness to meet that cost. Scrapping jury trials will lead to injustice, but so do the huge delays and perpetual bureaucratic c*ck-ups in the current system. @barristersecret.bsky.social is good on this.

As more people require adult social care, & as needs become more complex, Directors are projecting an overspend of £623mn this year. This will affect how much care people can receive & how quickly they can access it.
