We have a shed at the end of our garden, where I like to drink beer with my mates. Just had a great drink-up after a long break. Jack White, the rock god, has made the atmosphere there so much over the years. From Dead Leaves through to Icky Thump, it's electrifying, psychedelic and soulful […]

Currently, it is hot here, Making the best use of it to ripen Camembert. A cheapo I bought last week from a well known German chain now tastes like it was plucked from the plate of an 18th century aristocrat seconds before the guillotine sliced his bread. Vive la France! And hooray for global […]

Any thoughts on this @paulcallaghan.bsky.social l, @tom-clark.bsky.social , @guardianheather.bsky.social , @jburnmurdoch.ft.com , @danneidle.bsky.social , @adamlbrown.bsky.social , @peterlevell.bsky.social? Most of what I read suggests tariffs are batshit crazy and doomed, but YV thinks otherwise.
Hey #Economics people! Just watched www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms5-.... Yanis Varoufakis argues that after tariffs are imposed EU & UK central banks will reduce interest rates to absorb the recessionary shock, weakening £/€ against $, offsetting the inflationary impact on US economy. Is he right? 1/2

I'm a guy who would rather see people getting along. I'm not up for all of this 'we hate' stuff. Everyone who is escalating that can fuck off. And then come back when they realise they were being dickheads - we still love you, dudes. #drunkpost #iloveeveryone

I reposted this earlier in the week, and replied to several of the posts in the thread. Mysteriously none of these are visible in my timeline. I am hoping the fossil fuels industry has not yet found a way to NERF this kind of material.
NEW PAPER: The 2022 fossil fuel price jumps caused an oil and gas profit explosion. We show the US reaped the largest profit increase (USD 275bn) of any country. Big Oil claims this benefits the American people. In fact, 51% went to the richest 1%, only 1% to the bottom 50%. A 🧵

My view: if that tax treatment is aimed at achieving desired savings for pensioners, we shouldn't take it away by directing their investment [that will be the effect; lowering returns, increasing risk]. If the tax treatment is too generous, increase taxes.
