These performative perp walks only build up the subject as some sort of powerful super-villain mastermind. Drop him off on the street in a Crown Vic flanked by two frumpy FBI agents in windbreakers. Mark Ruffalo’s character from “Task.”

Every bit of this project was an absolute delight. From researching the patent drawings, reaching out to Takara Tomy to try and find Wantanabe-san, and collaborating with photographer Jim Golden on the deconstructed Armatron shoot...I loved it all. ter.li/JKeegan (gift link)

I wrote about an earlier attempt at fusion, LLNL’s Mirror Fusion Test Facility. This incredibly sci-fi looking machine used 400-ton magnet mirrors. It cost a billion dollars over 10 years, and was shut down the day it was dedicated, and never turned on. www.beautifulpublicdata.com/the-mirror-f...

Covering Amazon, Microsoft, and Google’s earnings this quarter, I was struck by not just the size of the capex they have spent this year, but the massive backlogs in their cloud businesses.
