Sweeney mentions "corrupt" journalists, and some journos look worse than others here, but even the *regular behavior of journalists in the background of this story* falls into a pattern that a non-journalist can immediately parse as corrupt!

"journalistic ethics" apparently leaves room for a massive shadow network of friends doing favors for friends without any transparency, behind the a veil of secrecy that is *supposed* to protect sources, not your *nationally prominent journalist buddies*

I think the thing we say about overwrought and tacky nowadays is that it's "camp"
