immigrants score the lowest on tests, but they also take all our jobs, while at the same time taking all the welfare and buying all the homes
Stephen Miller: "If you subtract immigration out of test scores, all of the sudden our test scores skyrocket"

the defensiveness and incredulity of a good chunk of the commentary class toward arguments about trump’s racism is, imho, downstream of the same impulse behind the endless trump voter safaris and self-flagellation about being out of touch with the heartland
Thinking back to how people were "hysterical" for calling trump white supremacist and now he's doing nordic theory on the campaign trail

i like how the most recent @ifbookspod.bsky.social about elon musk's biography started with @michaelhobbes.bsky.social saying he had no zinger and then he immediately belted out "be straight, do grimes" which is hands down one of the best zingers they've ever cranked out

the thing about this is that it is not actually true that liberal arts degrees are bad at preparing you for the job market. history or English majors who can read and write good are basically prepared for many types of email jobs
Yes we all agree that this is the reason colleges are in trouble

I see what she did there
this is *insanely* compelling. you, in the first person, engage in reasoning. you submit yourself to the idea of reason. you *realize you were wrong.* the terror of this leads you to want to correct. and the instrumentalization of reason offers a way to do so--

a way to be less wrong.

Some of you may be like “what about people who can’t breastfeed or babies who can’t latch” and the answer is that he wants your babies to die

He's extremely good, there's no two ways about it.

(this is what you'd like to see! an actual bench!)
Biss, who is a better fit for the district and actually lives there, is probably going to beat Abughazaleh—who has admittedly won me over with her scrapping—but that’s going to be fine because he’s also good!
Evanston Mayor and congressional candidate Daniel Biss is calling on the Trump administration to explain how its recent agreement with Northwestern University could affect protests, community partnerships and immigration enforcement in the city.

Oh, it does. That's the political questions doctrine.

MQD is "we are killing this policy unless congress steps up (lol)"
PQD is "we are leaving this policy unless congress steps up (lol)"

Birthright citizenship is probably not integral to liberal democracy, but it is integral to *American* liberal democracy. Our vision of what we are as a country, as a nation beyond an ethnicity, requires it.

all a bit esoteric and it's not exactly a messaging winner, but: america is a religion, and a proselytizing one. that's what being a creedal nation means. come to america, endorse the principles of the declaration and the constitution: congrats, you are an american.

just a reminder as you read this very lovely thread of Charles Sumner-posting: Casten’s reputation is that of a business-friendly moderate.

the caucus may or may not be able to do anything about this, which may or may not be a real threat.

but they are *pissed*
That this SCOTUS used it to justify striking affirmative action bc it discriminated against WHITE people and now thinks their might be a colorable argument about the birthright part shows only that they are confused about whether the good team won the Civil War. (2/3)

im sympathetic to the vibe, but there is some tension here between "wanting to govern like you have an undeniable, righteous mandate" and "not actually having the numbers that prove that mandate exists."

I cant help but think 70/30 land is an absolute prerequisite condition for "reconstruction 2"
i don't want to win a unifying 70-30.

i want to win 51-49 based on promises of vengeance.
I don’t want to vote for a Democrat who promises to get Trump’s voters to vote for them. I want a Democrat who wants to put Trump in prison
