the 80s had a high density of celebrities whose authenticity was hard to figure out, as a kid. like, was Mr. T a real guy? he was like that in shows/movies but also in interviews? or pee wee, elvira, max headroom, various wrestlers. even alf was on celebrity squares. it was a confusing time.

senior year at my high school (not "boston" but mass) the jocks started doing a self-parodic thing where they’d just yell “sully!” to each other across great distances and if you heard it you had to yell it back and honestly? pretty funny bit
gotta convince ourselves that we chose this
I travel to Boston several times per year, and it remains the only city I’ve visited where people walk around in articles of clothing with the name of the city they’re currently in. Not a college, not a sports team. Just the concept of Boston.

The greatest gift I ever gave my parents was finally moving out of their house. In fact, I've given them this gift several times over the years, and it makes them happier each time.

This is how bad actors manage to drive a wedge between the lower and middle class. We are all one missed paycheck or one bad accident away from potentially losing everything, and it’s foolish to pretend we shouldn’t fight together

people are arguing over the definition of 'working class' again. this is unfortunate because it is actually very easy to understand: you are 'working class' if you need your job in order to maintain access to a printer.

sure you might have objective evidence in the form of rent or mortgage payments suggesting that housing is much more expensive now than it used to be but consider the following: what if a glib idiot told you it wasn't
What, precisely, is the crisis? When will it be resolved? People have been talking about housing crises since the 80s. I agree that there’s a long-run upward drift in housing costs; I agree some high-cost metros have real issues. But what are we seeing right now that’s a nationwide crisis?
Stancil being a housing crisis denier is the darnedest thing

the year is 2073. earth is a scorched wasteland, bestrode by rival factions who battle for dwindling resources. locked in a bloody struggle--each vowing total annihilation upon the other. the source of their feud? liz cheney's endorsement of kamala harris in the now all-but-forgotten 2024 election.
