📉 Tariffs are dominating the news, which is a good excuse to re-up this thorough piece from Anay Mridul of Green Queen Media on their possible effect on food tech and alt protein.

TLDR (although I highly recommend you read it): It's not good.

Explained: How Trump's Tariffs Will Impact Food Tech & Alternative Protein
Food prices are skyrocketing in the US, and President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China will hit the alternative protein sector hard.

Shifting the protein they offer to more plants and less meat is a way for food retailers to hit emissions targets and give their customers a healthier choice.

Rewe, Germany's second-biggest retailer, has committed to doing just that in a move that will help shape the food system across Europe.

The LA fires provided another deluge of apocalyptic photos of the terrible destruction turbocharged by climate change.

Madre Brava's @emilyarmistead.bsky.social picked out one which highlighted our inability (so far) to tackle the impact on the planet of what we eat.
One image from the LA fires was symbolic of our failure to face the facts about our food system

On Climate Home News, @emilyarmistead.bsky.social argues the image of a burning McDonald’s was not just a symbol of the American Dream going up in smoke.

The UK's first cultivated meat dog treats produce far fewer emissions than raising and slaughtering animals.
