Banged newsletter out a couple of hours early because I'm busy all afternoon and don't want to be overtaken by Events.

This week: the Tories are dying, and it’s less fun than I’d imagined? Also: a new way of mapping urban UK; and some anti-car propaganda from the Walt Disney Corporation.
…but with a whimper

Was there a memo to all Atlantic tropical cyclones this year or something where they were all told to avoid the US
National Hurricane Center map of the Atlantic showing Tropical Storm Jerry to the east of the lesser Antilles with a projected path skirting the islands to the north before swinging further north and then east out to sea Map of the Atlantic showing all tropical cyclone paths for 2025, with most of them following the same general path where they appear scared to come anywhere near the US

It is extremely unlikely to set me up for life. It has been lovely but not life changingly so. I am lucky to be able to make good money from writing, at a time when that is extremely hard, but i do need to keep at it - am halfway through the next one now

You can get my book Borderlines in electronic form for an amazing 99p at the moment; at a time when politicians are fetishising borders, why not look at them in a bit more detail, and get the view from Europe’s borders? www.amazon.co.uk/Borderlines-...

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

funny thing about this is that's slightly adapted from my original pitch document - not written by a professional copy writer at all, it's just me

It genuinely wasn't! I just wanted to check a hunch that my engagement was better here than in the old place before writing it down in a column. The attention from people who didn't follow me already is pleasing but unexpected

I am often sometimes to sell something, yes - books or podcasts or articles - but on this occasion it's because I'm writing about whether the centre left have lost influence by leaving Twitter, so "reach" is a fairly important metric.

I asked politely to end this conversation several times. Please understand that continuing to talk at someone who has gently asked you to stop is rude. Enjoy your evening.
