We will not stop fighting for the right of our doctors to practice medicine free from political interference.
jordanackermi.bsky.social
This is not our choice. This is not a reflection of our values. It is a forced hand by federal intimidation.
Gender-affirming care is lifesaving. Every major medical association knows this. We remain steadfast in our support of trans youth and their families.

This is one of the most anguished decisions the University of Michigan has ever faced.
Our doctors were threatened by the Trump Administration: provide gender-affirming care to minors and risk losing your license—or face jail.

Doctors, nurses, and staff at Michigan Medicine are being threatened—just for caring for patients. This isn’t just an attack on health care. It’s an assault on our values, weaponizing the federal government against the vulnerable.

EXCLUSIVE: In response to threats of criminal prosecution from the Department of Justice for performing gender-affirming care, the University of Michigan hospital system will tomorrow announce they are ending gender-affirming care in the UM hospital system. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/univers...

There aren’t sufficient words to describe the president’s rants this morning, but I’ll say this again:

Attacking a Jewish U.S. Senator as “Palestinian” is both antisemitic and racist at the same time — intended to divide us into “good” and “bad” Jews in a way that makes all of us less safe.

SLOTKIN: Have you given the order to be able to shoot at unarmed protesters in any way?

HEGSETH: What is that based on?

SLOTKIN: It is based on Trump giving that order to your predecessor, who I give a lot of credit to bc he didn't accept the order. He has more guts & balls than you

Yes. According to Army protocol, congressional staff are VIP Code 5, with a rank equivalent to a two-star general/admiral. Members of Congress are of course significantly higher.

I have never seen USCP, FPS, or any other federal LEO treat any Member with anywhere near this disrespect and violence.
dburbach.bsky.social
We drill into military officers that Members of Congress have Constitutional oversight rights, Members outrank four-stars in protocol, and even Congressional staffers are treated like generals/admirals.

To see sworn federal officers manhandle and handcuff a U.S. Senator... I'm still shook up.

As President Grasso said, this was behavior outside the scope of their orders and these contracts have been rightly terminated.

Every Jewish elected I know in the country has received an FBI-referred threat since 10/7.

And yes, police details are now the norm.
simon.schuster.press
At a press conference from the Michigan legislature's Jewish Caucus, Rep. Samantha Steckloff said that "every single one of us ... has received a call from the FBI with credible threats to our life."

She said she has a police detail outside her home.

In the Obama administration, the President hired Jeb Bush's (extremely competent) Emergency Management head because of his experience with Florida hurricane season, and also the disaster that was Katrina.

Now, this:

Having known Abdul since college (we met while taking Arab Israeli Conflict Class at U-M!), I know what a fundamentally decent person he is.

This is just another example of it.

We don't have to agree on everything to care about each other or see each other as people.

Praying for the victims of the vile, antisemitic attack against peaceful, innocent marchers in Boulder, CO today.
jordanackermi.bsky.social
Agreed.

Peaceful protest, within the laws, is not only acceptable, it is as American as can be.

Throwing urine jars through my window, attacking the Governor of PA, shooting people at a Jewish event in DC, now this.

None of this is legal, none of this helps Palestinians or Israelis either.
jordanackermi.bsky.social
We are tired of explaining that this is antisemitism.

We’re tired of asking people to care.

But we keep showing up — because the alternative is silence. And we’ve seen where that leads.
jordanackermi.bsky.social
You can hold whatever political views you want. You can oppose the war. You can protest policy by Israeli leaders (heck, many Israelis do!)

But if you think attacking Jews on the street is activism, you’ve crossed a moral line. That’s not justice — that’s hate.
jordanackermi.bsky.social
We’ve reached a point where just being visibly Jewish — praying, speaking Hebrew, calling for the release of innocent people — is enough to be a target.

It’s terrifying. It’s dehumanizing. And it’s not new. But it is getting worse.
