I am either running, watching a movie or a documentary, listening to a playlist I’ve listened to a thousand times, reading a book, playing chess or appreciating something.
I am watching Van Helsing. I love Van Helsing. Van Helsing has many similarities with these movies but it does not have that particular thing. Whatever that particular thing is must be the reason why they had sequels and Van Helsing didn’t.

Okay that’s fair, we’ll have to keep that in mind.

They have commonalities, sure. But there is something special I get from watching these films that seem to bind all three together. In a way, it’s as if the three directors had the same end of year film project.

It’s something that goes beyond the fact they all are short in widescreen, the turn of the century strong-willed Damsel in Distress (I believe women having a personality in action films began during this time), they’re all period pieces, the leading man isn’t a stereotypical action hero.
