I honestly think that many people don't know what their public libraries offer besides books. I think that everyone should go on a public library treasure hunt in 2026. Go explore what your library systems offer at no cost to you. Report back to me :)
“I miss blockbuster video” the library has every dvd totally untouched and I never see you there

There are many people posting information about evacuations on Facebook that is actually from, and only applies to, 2021. Make sure that the things you are reading and sharing relate to this event, and not the 2021 event.

Right. State of emergency. Time to log back in to a social media platform and see what @tyolsen.bsky.social says about how much to worry.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:
18f.org
We're not done yet | 18F

Woke up thinking about Zelensky being asked “Why don’t you wear a suit?” yesterday and remembered the time Winston Churchill also did not wear a suit visiting the White House during an active war.

When I started - one week on hire, and 2-3 days at every new branch I worked at.

Currently - 3 days total

Jesus tap dancing Christ I know I have put 0 effort into curating what I get here and so it's 90% library but the "LIBRARIANS ARE SUPERHEROS" bullshit from both within and without the profession is killing me

lionizing your librarians does nothing. We are the second lowest paid degree-requiring profession. But we are paid by your municipalities, which respond to your votes and calls for action.

Pay us. Make the field worth being in so the people we need in it don't have to leave or take second jobs.
Do not mess with librarians. They let complete strangers borrow their books. For a living. Even the hardcovers. They are so much stronger than you know.

(scans the timeline) all those dystopian novels of the 'aughts and teens really romanticized what "resistance" looks like for a certain demographic huh.

I'm *in* that demographic but I don't know them like that.
