As USAID pulls back from Central Asia, some regional leaders are welcoming the change.

In her latest for the Bourse and Bazaar blog, Anna Jordanova unpacks why this could be a turning point for local governance and diplomacy.

GDP is a nice number, nevertheless - do we have any data on how many families (even in which regions) are critically dependent on a foreign income? #Tajikistan #Uzbekistan #Kyrgyzstan #remittances

Being ostentatiously neutral (=non-threatening) country neighboring Afghanistan/Iran has been among the most functional components of the Turkmen elite forpol so far. Deep below the everyday debate, attention to human rights issues regionally decreasing. Let's see what econ/climate agenda can do..

Just imagine those #EU diplomats who just finished a full-scale multilevel diplomatic and economic charming campaign of #CentralAsia coming to their offices, opening news and watching the ongoing Trump's mess around the tariffs...

Hi, academia! I need to know a bit about #Turkic peoples in the present-day Russia. History/politics/anthropology/culture - books/podcasts/movies, anything you can recommend?

In #CentralAsia, the #EU/states are way beyond the “value-based” policy. Now, here is a strategic partnership - in areas where Europe is already behind schedule. Also, good chance to observe the KZ/UZ vs KG/TJK/TRKM: what connects them, what divides; what is actually “regional”.

What a great kickoff between @unikarlova.cuni.cz and #Termez university, #Uzbekistan. So far archaeology was the main discipline; hopefully more opportunities will emerge also for our contemporary @fsv.unikarlova.cuni.cz! Also, best plov in Prague.

Happiness at @fsv.unikarlova.cuni.cz/IMS: Kateřina Fuksová and I received the 4EU+ #PhD grant titled "Decolonial Approaches and Fieldwork: Theory and Practice." Hopefully, we’ll be able to invite dear colleagues to #Prague for some good debates!
