We are building a theatre development and residency space in an old library in Cornwall (The Ladder) - Our work focuses on mainly theatre in non-traditional spaces / places.
Carn to cove may also be of interest in Cornwall :)

We believe The Ladder and Cornwall need to look outwards, forge international cultural connections to share what challenges and inspires us as people and story tellers.

I was struck by the welcome & warmth they offered me & how allowing whiteness marks of the buildings life to exist alongside modern interventions turns heritage into something living & forward looking.

We are excited to embed these learnings at The Ladder & continue to welcome global connections

In the end we fell to the developers wrecking ball -

and that dusty corner of an industrial park that welcomed 75,000 people a year to dance and experience theatre is now a glistening, soulless, tower block.

But I like to think everyone who crossed the river Styx remembers the trip fondly.

At its heart it was an open venue for theatre and music that welcomed everyone from the Royal Court to Punchdrunk and JME to Giles Peterson.

With 5 nights a week of new theatre and weekends one promoter described as “Ibiza outside and Berlin inside”.

It was at times wild, it was always fun…

Haha - feels like it was an age ago!

An amazing/tiring/eye opening/wonderful/frustrating/incredible experience.

😊

It gets in your bones a place like this.

A magical childhood of myths and festivals, an adolescence of lack of opportunity and frustrations.

Ultimately I’m glad I left and learned and saw so many different ways of doing things.

I’m so glad to be back and using that experience somewhere I love.
