Hello, Bluesky! I'm probably best known for my work @ Naughty Dog, where I spent 21+ years helping make Uncharted, TLOU2, & Jak. Prior to that, I worked in feature/tv animation, including a certain RHCP video. Currently doing game narrative consulting, baking, walking my dog, & not sleeping enough
box art for all the games I worked on at Naughty Dog: Jak 1/2/3/X, Uncharted 1/2/3/4/LL, TLOU2 A still from the music video for Californication A picture of some mini-kouign-amann I baked A picture of my dog Rose, a small black pit/lab mix

1991: wrote a 10-page essay, a 12-page play, and about half the required journal entries for a semester-long guest writer class the night before they were due coasting entirely on sugar, caffeine, & undiagnosed ADD panic focus; got an A- and heartburn

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

Y'know, when people have asked me about my dream game, I've always said a runaway slave + Underground Railroad project or something set in or around the Haitian Revolution.

Someone somewhere is already taking this on and infusing the work with all the courage that the subject matter deserves.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

You would not believe how many stories like this have been popping up over the last ~5 years

Not just full games cancelled—entire characters and plot lines removed or changed, leaving less time for making the *rest of the game better*, to try avoiding a small and malicious contingent of voices.

Learned that I am being laid off from Heart Machine, and will be leaving the studio later this month.

Do you need a contractor? I've got a track record of leading scope-friendly script revisions late in dev. I have also done a lot of consulting on new IPs and pitches/demos. Feel free to DM me!

i find the best thing to do when I've done something wrong is to double down, and if that doesn't work, triple down or quadruple down, just keep going down until you've come through to the other side
