Fact: Trump is leaning into this fiction, as he does with all false claims of authority, because he is weak and lacks real power. The only way he could ever obstruct the midterms is if we—along with our lawmakers, governors, and state legislatures—choose to hand him that power out of cowardice.

Fact: No matter the circumstances—wartime, so-called “martial law,” or any national crisis—Trump has zero authority to cancel elections.
