Why are we even talking about this in terms of Democrats voting for a shutdown? Democrats are asking for political concessions. Republicans are absolutely intransigent and unwilling to compromise. THAT is why a shutdown would happen. THAT should be the story.

There are many senate Democrats capable of leading the caucus. Schumer needs to be out. He has not served his country nor party well this week. He is a messaging disaster. The role of a party is to shape public opinion. Lead!
