Honest question: any chance this move by Austin was inspired by Biden’s very bad decision to pardon Hunter? If nothing else, blocking anyone else’s ability to offer plea deals would limit that a lot.

Understanding gained through family love is understandable, yes. Understanding through an unwavering commitment to justice is something else entirely.
Joe Biden couldn’t prevent the car crash that killed his wife and daughter and he couldn’t save Beau from cancer, but he had the power to save Hunter from his conviction and he took it. You can disagree with the decision, but if you love your family, you understand it.
