Ooof what an excellent letter. Hits every issue with evidence. Imagine designing a curriculum without considering the time required to deliver it in the classroom nor the developmental altitude of the students…

Success comes in the shape of a pyramid. There’s only one PM and one Air NZ CEO at a time. Most people are working to pay bills and exist. We have over-index on the idea that everyone can slowly work through the steps to success and eventually be on top. It’s a myth.

It’s a pretty big move for a representative member organisation to make specific policy requests - hard to manage in the member base. I think this is quite bold, they are urging a rethink to previous parameters- business loves certainty, but this is a request for Govt to change tack, get creative

Total gross earnings rose 1.5.% last year – well below current inflation of 2.7%. Workers are falling further behind the current cost of living. This has likely been compounded by real-terms cuts in the minimum wage, and fewer jobs being available to make up lost hours

The economy is very difficult for younger workers. 19,842 fewer filled jobs for 15-24 year olds than last year, and 41,000 fewer than 2 years ago. The group with the fastest growth in jobs are the over 65s, who may well be in work for financial reasons, not through active choice
