Today’s project. So. Many. Leaves. 🍁 🍂
A picture of my back garden, with the lawn area completely covered in silver maple leaves. There are pops of red in the border provided by an oakleaf hydrangea, blueberries, grey dogwood and a pineapple sage (we haven’t had a killing frost yet).

Sandstone carved out into sinuous curves by the waves on the beach in Salema. Salema’s beach, looking west. The water is deep turquoise and clear. Cliff face in Salema. Sandstone for sure. If I were a better geologist, and could identify more. Intertidal zone on Salema’s beach. Huge rock in the foreground, with clear turquoise water in the middle and far-off cliffs in the western distance.

Over Our Dead Bodies 2020 Stained-glass panel Philadelphia Museum of Art. Purchased with the Leonard and Norma Klorfine Foundation Endowed Fund for Modern and Contemporary Craft, 2021-110-1 Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, Over Our Dead Bodies visualizes humanity's demise and nature's ascendancy, expressing that beauty hinges on the certainty of death. For the composition, Schaechter looked to paintings of the Tree of Life, a symbol of fertility and abundance, by Indian artists. Beneath the earth, the roots of the tree are entangled with human skeletons, while birds, flowers, snakes, and insects prosper above. This work, its creatures, and its two-part depiction of the world informed elements of Schaechter's Super/Natural dome. To make the wallpaper on the dome's lower section, Schaechter digitally layered images of the underground from Over Our Dead Bodies and Persephone, on display nearby.

Persephone 2015 Stained-glass panel Courtesy of the artist and Claire Oliver Gallery, NYC The daughter of Demeter, the Greek goddess of agriculture and the harvest, Persephone was abducted by Hades and forced to live in the underworld for half of the year. For this work, Schaechter was inspired by a passage from A.E. Stallings's poem Persephone Writes a Letter to Her Mother (1997), in which Stallings writes: I miss you and think about you often. Please send flowers. I am forgetting them. If I yank them down by the roots, they lose their petals And smell of compost. Though I try to describe Their color and fragrance, no one here believes me. Schaechter imagines Persephone's unsuccessful attempt to drag a flower into the earth. Elements of this underground scene are incorporated into the wallpaper in the lower level of the Super/Natural dome.

8. Fireplace ca. 1956-58 Philip Lloyd Powell (1919-2008) Walnut Museum purchase funded by the Mandel Society for Art Acquisition, Beveridge Moore and Henry Morof Trust, and George C. Benson in honor of his friend, John Horton. 2008.6 Philip Lloyd Powell moved to New Hope, Pennsylvania, just after World War II and built his home, studio, and shop along Route 202. By 1951, Powell was selling modern furniture by Herman Miller and Knoll, George Jensen products, and Isamu Noguchi lamps, and he began designing his own line of lamps and wood, slate, and metal furniture inspired by George Nakashima and Wharton Esherick. From 1955 until 1966, Powell shared a showroom in New Hope with artist Paul Evans (1931-1987), where this fireplace was located. Tall and shaped like a tree trunk, Powell's fireplace surround features what is considered the artist's finest and most sophisticated carving technique, where he gouges the wood to exaggerate the grain pattern and the material's irregularities.

You can use focus | do not disturb & set it to turn on for a given time. Mine’s on from 10p-8a, and I did exempt certain apps. you can get around it by entering your passcode (if you have one). DM if you’re having trouble setting it up; I know grief-ravaged brains aren’t optimal. 🫂

I repainted my front door 🙂 it’s no longer the color of the med-surg floor of the hospital I worked in and is now a happy mid-century turquoise. And the new paint is actually exterior paint 😬
