Behold the bungees!

We live in a 'cat A' environment... (Two cats both bungee-corded into separate large rooms because one can open handles but they simply can't get on. They take it in turns to have free rein of the house.) This is the door-opening chaos gremlin...

Two weeks of poorly cat drama appears to be finally behind us... This knobhead ate a leek leaf (deadly poisonous to cats) last Monday, was treated successfully by vet and then she (and the other cat) both got tummy bugs. We seem to be out the other side at last.

ANDY BURNHAM MAYOR OF GREATER MANCHESTER These comments go against everything for which Manchester has traditionally stood: a place where people of all races, faiths and none have pulled together over centuries to build our city and our institutions, including Manchester United FC. Calling for curbs on levels of immigration is one thing; portraying those who come here as a hostile invading force is quite another. It is inaccurate, insulting, inflammatory and should be withdrawn. Footballers who have arrived from all over the world to play in Greater Manchester have enhanced the life of our city-region, as have the many people working in Greater Manchester's NHS and other essential services and industries. We appreciate their contribution as a city-region famous for the warmth of our welcome. If any criticism is needed, it should be directed towards those who have offered little contribution to our life here and have instead spent years siphoning wealth out of one of our proudest institutions.

We thought one of our cats was a gonna last week after she ate some leek leaf, but thanks to quick work at the vets, she's back to gremlin moding and causing chaos.

I've recently rediscovered this recipe (used to make it all the time in the 90s). It's delicious - don't know if it will anger the acid though.
PASTA SHELLS WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE 300g (10 oz) pasta shells 5 cm (2-inch) piece of root ginger, peeled and grated 2 tablespoons black bean sauce 2 tablespoons say sauce 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce 175 ml (6 fl oz) vegetable stock 2 garlic cloves, crushed grated zest of ½ lemon 3 tablespoons sesame oil 175 g (6 oz) button mushrooms, quartered 125 g (4 oz) bean sprouts PREPARATION AND COOKING TIME: 15 MINUTES Black bean sauce is well worth buying as it gives a flavour quite out of the ordinary to any dish you add it to. This dish of pasta shells mixed unth mushrooms and bean sprouts is seasoned with garlic and Chinese sauces, and it alvays seems to disappear as quickly as it is prepared. Cook the pasta shells in plenty of boiling water for about 10 minutes, or until they are cooked through but still firm (al dente). Meanwhile, mix together in'a small saucepan the ginger, black bean sauce, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, stock, garlic and lemon zest. Allow the flavours to infuse over a very gentle heat for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the sesame oil, add the mushrooms, and stir-fry until well coated in the oil. When the mushrooms are heated through but still crisp, add the bean sprouts, increase the heat and stir-fry briskly, so that they too heat through but are still crisp. Pour the sauce over the vegetables and mix together thoroughly. Drain the pasta and transfer it to warm plates, covered with the sauce. Serve immediately. Finished dish: pasta shells, button mushrooms and beansprouts in a brown sauce.
