This January 12th, my mind and heart automatically turn to the devasting 2010 earthquake in my beloved maternal homeland of #Haiti. Sigh.

I still believe we will find our way in all things one day soon.

Jean-Baptiste Belley-Mars was kidnapped as a boy from Goree Island (Senegal) and shipped to Saint-Domingue (Haiti).

Enslaved, he purchased his freedom and represented Saint-Domingue in the French National Convention in Paris in 1794 & made case for abolition of slavery in France and its colonies.

La exportación de estilos se vivió con intensidad en todo el continente americano bajo el genérico apelativo de arquitectura colonial.

En todo el continente abundan edificios de estilos europeos como el barroco, pero más raro es uno construido por esclavos

Capitalist colonialism destroys in every way it sees an avenue for profit. Those in power have and will only and always choose profit over people, land, and life. Every single time.

Make the connections. Gaza, Haiti, Sudan, the DRC, Puerto Rico, all of us for each other to stop Empire’s fire.
