Right. I don't pretend Gore would be a transformational president, but if he gets elected, maybe Richard Clarke gets a full hearing. Maybe terrorist plots get foiled. Maybe we forgo two wars, the ramping up of the security state, the suspension of rule of law, and the hideous nativism of post-2016.

It was the widest swing of any Sliding Doors moment I can think of. We probably still get attacked on 9/11 but wouldn’t have gone into Iraq, so no Isis is created. And of course the difference between having Gore addressing climate change in the early 2000s instead of Bush/Cheney is incalculable.
