old Soviet joke for our times:

Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to.

Guy says: “looking for an obituary.”

Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.”

Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

Well, examine it another way: under what conditions would you forgive Trump, etc., their offenses? You can't just "make the decision to reduce the power it has over you" - and I would say, it's because the threat is still ongoing.

I feel like what you're describing is real but it's the "forget" part of "forgive and forget"

As Democrats contemplate a 2026 or 2028 run and wonder what message will most motivate voters, they need to understand that the minimum opening bid is vengeance.

To restore the rule of law, Democrats must enforce the constitution with brass knuckles like there’s nothing to lose. Because there isn’t.

I mean it's pretty hard to forgive an offense when the transgressor is saying "actually the offense was good and I'm not sorry and I'll do it again as soon as I get the chance"
qed2.bsky.social
forgiveness yes, but forgiveness requires repentance first

next thing you’ll tell me is that the same society that sneers at public displays of charity towards the most weak and vulnerable will elect, in turn, a government that is entirely predicated on terrorizing its own domestic population of ethnic minorities, laborers, and the poor writ large

UPDATE: Judge Perry issued an opinion explaining why she blocked the Texas National Guard deployment in Chicago.

She begins with Alexander Hamilton’s rejection of a “preposterous” idea that the Constitution lets a President deploy a State’s militia to a different State for political retribution. 🧵
OPINION AND ORDER
Since this country was founded, Americans have disagreed about the appropriate division
of power between the federal government and the fifty states that make up our Union. This
tension is a natural result of the system of federalism adopted by our Founders. And yet, not even
the Founding Father most ardently in favor of a strong federal government believed that one
state's militia could be sent to another state for the purposes of political retribution, calling such
a suggestion "inflammatory," and stating "it is impossible to believe that [a President] would employ such preposterous means to accomplish their designs." But Plaintiffs contend that such
an event has come to pass, and argue that National Guard troops from both Illinois and Texas
have been deployed to Illinois because the President of the United States wants to punish state elected officials whose policies are different from his own.

Indeed. Or as I said in my case for liberal socialism, billionaires are intrinsic threats to political order. We should regulate billionaire fortunes for the same reason we regulate weapons of mass destruction.

@npr.org opened the 1st 20min of their 1st newscast with a story of the horrors in Gaza/Lebanon every single day starting soon after Oct 7th. They've run *1* such story since election day though the wars continue. These outlets are intentional and effective because the audience is overwhelmingly Dem

A way I can tell this is the case is that the Democrats responded pretty comprehensively to "is the president old" being the number one issue of the campaign and the result was that the issue disappeared from all coverage once that was the case.

If grocery prices had gone down or voters started saying they trusted Harris on grocery prices, the result would not be Harris walking away with the election but the media choosing in a different bad-for-Harris economic issue as the number one issue of the campaign.

When prices were going up under Biden there was a constant deluge of news stories about it because the media did not like Biden and wanted him to lose. Under Trump there is not a constant deluge of news stories about coffee prices because they like Trump and want him to win

everything is on fire these days, sure, but how is it that 50% of all news stories are not about how I just spent $20 on a bag of store brand coffee at fucking costco
