I think it would be funny if blue-area juries just start nullifying all of these prosecutions

Long past time. I've been wondering for a while why the bar association hasn't been willing to take this step
It's time to start disbarring DOJ lawyers
The notion of charging a black journalist under the KKK Act because he covered a pro-immigrant protest at a white Christian nationalist church is just so cartoonishly goddamned sinister. It also won't go anywhere.

But they're absolutely relishing it.

one thing that's funny about the academic left is how it ends up almost entirely valorizing stuff which didn't work over stuff that did because the defenses or analyses of the stuff which worked are either obvious or already published, making it all unpublishable

this is the kind of whitewashing of US history that academics should be enraged with, not the kind that motivates people to show up for their communities in -6 degree weather
Signs about the history of slavery in the U.S. and the 9 people George Washington enslaved are being removed right now at the President’s House Site in Philadelphia, across from Independence Hall, months after the Trump administration threatend to do so.

How far we have not come in 250 years.

Black people can also be racists and enemies of multiracial democracy. This isn't news, it comes up often enough.

basically there is no hedge position against the destruction of the world economic order so you may as well just stand pat until the market tells you where the lifeboat is
Slightly surreal that the stock market basically relies on the playground logic of "nuh-uh, I had an invisible force field!" and this somehow works even after it is pointed out that their Donny Trump action figure might come with Kung-Fu Cheeto Grip, but no force field is included.
Incredible, Greenland's PM is now refuting the one part of this that represented any change to the status quo ante.

I think all the discussion around Newsom is silly because he's not going to win in the primary. Like I can feel that in my bones.

I don't think I've ever met a democrat who's like "Yeah, Gavin Newsom, he's my favorite Dem politician these days."
i’m gonna run for president solely to attack gavin newsom and y’all are gonna pay for it

I'm hesitant to make this point again because I made it in 2024 and it was (seemingly) incorrect, but recalled vote weighting is not a great practice and I'm not sure if these polls are accurate.
The generic ballot is only D+6 but what the hell lol

The idea that you should campaign on the issue your opponent polls the lowest on is far from obvious on its own terms. There are a lot of unstated assumptions being made about the rigidity of voter preferences, narrative, and how vote choices are ultimately made.
I will repeat: It is not obvious, based on the data, that campaigning on the economy in Nov would be significantly more effective than campaigning on immigration. Gov. policy is dramatically out of step with the public on immigration/deportations, and executive overreach is a potent motivator

I think ideally we form a build a new precedent that makes a distinction between pardons for clemency and pardons for corrupt ends, with the latter being revocable.

The other option, though, is presidential sedevacantism: he's not a legitimate president so his pardons don't count.
I don't know if I believe he will actually pardon all these people when he knows he's on his way out, but regardless, I agree that we should be prepared to ignore the pardons through whatever made up legal process we need.

We should investigate the pardons he's doing now for invalidation as well.

This is a great story.

A fun fact about the Navajo code is that it is believed to be the only military code that was never broken.
This reminds me of one of my favorite stories. During a Javelin Thrust in Yuma one year, we brought two Navajo Code Talkers out to talk to the comm Marines about doing the job in WW2, get a brief on modern comm gear, and so we could ensure we still had Marines who could say they shook their hands.
I really dislike this leftie tendency to use all of the horrible crimes this country has committed as proof that the country is irredeemable, when the people who fought against it often did so *as Americans* because it implies they were a bunch of stupid fucking rubes

Very plausible, and it's quite likely he'll do it, which is why it's essential that we ignore the pardons and pack the court
What's the bet that they've been fed a "don't worry he'll pardon us all" line?

It's so bizarre that these guys are fully aware that what they are doing is illegal, that they could very well be prosecuted for it, and that they expect there to be a Dem administration 4 years from now. And yet...

Operation Paperclip criticism is always so weird. We basically enslaved Nazi scientists for years. What's some better alternative that people imagine here?
1: literally every allied power in europe did this, and the Soviets actually did it the most

2: this is in no way contrary to anyone fighting the nazis, the fact that the allied powers were in a position to capture/accept the surrender of scientists and engineers is *because* they fought the nazis

Here's the thing: Republicans do not have message focus. They hit everything they can. If you think this is stupid, look at the scoreboard.

There are some voters who want to hear about affordability. Others are waiting to see if anyone is going to do something about the secret police stealing kids.
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

I really think a top priority piece of future legislation should be to make it illegal to post stuff like this. The penalty should be a function of your reach as a speaker and truth can be an affirmative defense
Glenn Youngkin, Winsome Earle-Sears, and Jason Miyares were in office this entire time

It’s easier to post stuff like this than actually win votes

At this rate, not sure if GOP will seriously contests redistricting referendum

This is nice work by Elliott. Note too that the only demographic group in which Trump has majority support is white non-college-educated respondents, and there he is just barely holding on. There is no electoral downside to opposing authoritarianism.
