But this wasn't what happened at all, it was oversold and over hyped to attract money from tech billionaires looking to produce Silicon Jesus and that is one of the many contributing factors to the difficulties we have broadly in society on this date.

Piggy backing on this (apologies to op) but my biggest issue was always over promising in a way that attracts new users under false pretenses. If the AI folks had just said "this is the new search, search + synthesis, but it's in beta so beware and double check" I would probably be more on board.

I think a lot of people who are reasonable AI skeptics are saying things like “I don’t see a reliable use for LLMs in areas I’m an expert in” and that those folks are quite distinct from people who argue that LLMs don’t have capabilities that they clearly do

JD Vance has such a good life in this country. Despite coming from a troubled home and dysfunctional community, our most prestigious institutions welcomed him in and have made him wealthier than a very few. It would be nice if he showed a little gratitude and grace.

Weaponized gratitude is a key tool in the abuser's toolkit. The goal is to convince the victim that they owe the abuser so much, they should feel guilty for wanting to complain.
