for the record, if you reply to my posts expressing that you think that maybe Trump is an invincible mastermind who can get away with anything, and I don't know you, I'll probably block

I'm gonna pin this so also, for the record, if I don't follow you, please do not take that personally

I am of course too close to this to be objective, but also, I see federal agents every day! I saw two people get abducted yesterday! Like the thing that’s happened to my city very much still seems to be happening

anyway ICE cars are sighted nonstop, abductions continue at a high rate, and school absenteeism remains about 50% as tens of thousands of families remain in hiding. the city is being economically flattened. aftermath I guess

Kinda seems like a dressed up way of saying “I, like the mainstream press, completely checked out and figured the battle was over after Homan announced the fake drawdown specifically so attentions would shift elsewhere”
this sure is something

It feels fundamentally very dumb and enormously anticlimactic that the attempted authoritarian takeover of the US is very likely to collapse primarily because of negative perceptions of economic conditions rather than *gestures* but you take the wins you get!

And there is a version of traditional conservatism that encourages this: volunteerism, sports, church, family, ways of being something in the world. One of the poisonous things about MAGA is how it chokes off this stuff in favor of an inchoate sense of rage and worship of the mighty.

There’s a great study of rural Republican California and unemployment called “Those Who Work and Those Who Don’t” and one of the points it makes is that men who reinvented themselves as fathers and caregivers to children - not just their own - thrived when others floundered badly

(to be fair, this *is* very accurate to The Experience in a metaphorical difficulty sorta way)

i’m not particularly stickler-like in matters of diction but one thing i simply will not stand for is ‘ferment’ as a noun
RFK Jr on what he'll eat during the Super Bowl: "I am on a carnivore diet so I just eat meat and ferments, and I'm very happy with that. So I'm probably going to have yogurt."

We have room for two 5-year-old children.
Gonzales on Liam Ramos and his family: "They're not gonna qualify for asylum. So what do you do with all the people that go through the process and do not qualify for asylum? You deport them. I understand that 5-year-old and it breaks my heart. I also think, what about that 5-year-old US citizen?"

It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the current pace of change in technology.

A useful counterpoint:

There are STILL organizations using ArcMap for their GIS even though ArcGIS Pro has been out for over a decade.

Technology moves fast; capacity for adoption, not always.

ok I don't think most people here understand the gravity of *where* this happened so I'll try to explain: yall remember True Detective season one
RESULT: Democrat Chasity Martinez wins a special election for a legislative seat in Louisiana, 62% to 38%.

This was a district that Trump carried by 13% last year, so a big overperformance by Dems, but the seat was already Dem-held.

Hot take but a lot of opposition to “e-bikes” is just opposition to bikes in general. E-bikes are not quieter than acoustic bikes, when any bike is noisy it’s almost always noisy brakes or chain which apply to both types of bikes

Feeling my way around a law of social media which is that any post about someone else's tweets which you feel the need to add "please do not harass this person" should simply not be made in the first place. The large poster eye of Sauron is real, hell, the small time poster eye of Sauron is too.
