I write & publish literary fiction for hackers, geeks, and fans of Borges, Lem & Nabokov. I’ve written 4 novel(la)s; another novel in the works. Cyberpunk/biopunk technopothestic biodigital thrillers, some of them metafictional. All concern hacking of both silicon- & carbon-based systems. 💙📚 🪐📚

I first learned about the Mike Johnson grindr story yesterday & it sounds plausible to me. My gaydar is so feeble that it barely picks up Randy Rainbow's signal. But it sets off alarm bells whenever I see this guy. I sure hope the grindr story's true. I hope it ends this guy's career.

Rain on the skylight above the desk in the attic office of my falling-down house on Martha's Vineyard. Tops of 60-foot tall oak trees in the woods behind the back yard sway in the wind. All the lights in my office are turned off.

Last week, a Dutch court ordered Meta to let Facebook and Instagram users set a chronological feed by default, a first test of the EU’s Digital Services Act in civil court.
Tech Policy Press spoke with Bits of Freedom’s Rejo Zenger on the ruling’s significance.

It sure looks like that to me. My guess is that neither Putin nor Trump will be in the positions they now hold for much longer.

Monstrous.

"federal agents detained nearly every resident of the 130-unit building—including children and babies—placing them in zip ties and separating them by race into vans for more than two hours early Tuesday morning."

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Thanks. My first search every morning is "refinery russia". The results since around August 1st generally help me start my day with a bit of hope among all the doom.

Make sure you read the report about how Stephen Miller deported Waco's favorite Mexican restaurant owner.

When US citizen Leo Garcia Venegas tried to prove his identity by showing federal agents his REAL ID, they dismissed it as a fake and kept him detained, releasing him only after they bothered to run his Social Security number.

Just a few weeks later, they detained him again:
Mass Deportation Is A Threat To Us All
Aided by the Supreme Court and the insidious "Kavanaugh stop," the administration's chaotic mass deportation operations are sweeping up Americans – including children and U.S. military veterans.

A 1993 ad for Bloodnet, an RPG for PC platforms by Microprose

The vampire lord, Abraham Van Helsing, and the megacorp he rules thirst to control New York City in the dystopian future of 2094 and take a bite out of you. But thanks to your implants, you are able to defy your new master!
"In The New York City of 2094, Giving Blood Isn't Voluntary." says the ad which goes on to describe your predicament below as you play Ransom Stark, an unlucky hacker who gets caught up in a conspiracy involving vampires, cyberspace VR, and your own battle to stay human. A little cut out in the lower right is for a catalog request to see what else Micrropose has to offer, not for blood bank donations.

Ransom Stark is a lucky guy thanks to his cyber implants which, unfortunately for Van Helsing, blunt the effects of being turned into a vampire. But only for a time. With what time you have left, you need to find a way to fight back and, somehow, cure yourself before it's too late!

John Gurdon en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gu..., beacon of a generation that tackled head on the deepest question of biology: the development of an organism. The best tribute to him and his peers should be to remember and follow the path they forged for how to do Science in form and content.
