As long as "traffic safety" is owned by enforcement and not linked to engineering, the US is going to struggle to reliably have safe streets

I can imagine load consolidation and distribution happening with this project. I can see transfer from motor trucks to bicycle cargo vehicles for delivery on the last couple of miles in the city. Is that too great a stretch for Duffy's brain, or the brains of the freight companies?

So, too, some stuck in automobiles see bikes and feel bad about themselves because they're not taking part in a positive wave of change for the environment and economy.

I'm guessing here, because I don't feel that guilt much. I've the excuse of riding often.

What's beyond me is ...

"They don't want to see people on bikes...." Hmmm...

Perhaps that motivation is similar to the feeling that makes me do a few things to address homelessness. When I see people in my neighborhood living outside, I feel guilty for having a house, kitchen and garbage cans to return to.

A buddy and I once paddled his canoe downstream ten miles, locked it up and carried the paddles onto the bus back to the spot where we put in. Felt kinda funny. Smiled a lot with other riders.
