Corporate overlords are usually depicted as villains anyway, in perfect coherence with the trope. I suppose for them it is more important to be characterized as 'the powerful people with agency' than be portrayed as 'good guys'.

Question the hypothesis is, at most, the *first* step of research. But you had not done much of value if you remain in that step. After all, researching is looking for answers.
