I think that the use of "Classified" is to 1) imply gravity and weight for charges that lack either, and 2) stall for time. The actual meaning of the word is irrelevant to the prosecution.

Given the fact-free bubble they live in, do you think that Trump and Hegseth might have thought that they'd get an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response, which would strengthen Trump's hand re the budget deadline and city troop deployments?
If so, this is not the pivot they were looking for.

When I worked for USDA, there would be annual 3-day state conferences. They were framed in part as 'getaways' for attendees.

But the attendees were farmers, with cows to milk, other animals to tend, and crops that needed timely attention. Three days meant a scramble for coverage. (1/2)

I find myself thinking that summoning the top brass from all over the world on short notice is even more of an imposition. Their work is where they are, and their absences will be felt. I'm sure every one of them is thinking, "There had better be a damned good reason."

My take: "Warrior Ethos" is a cover for either something that is about to do down, or (more likely) something that WAS about to go down, but when speculation hit too close to the mark and the ramifications were spelled out, there was an attempt to put a more benign, supporter-friendly face on it.
